I am chair of the Computer Science Department at Eafit University. I also lead the Virtual Reality lab at Eafit University.
I earned my Ph.D. from the ECE Department at Rutgers University. I was part of the DISCIPLE research group at the CAIP center. My thesis advisor were Dr. Ivan Marsic and Dr. Rick Mammone . Prof. Michael Zyda was part of my Ph.D. thesis committee. My current research areas include: Collaborative Virtual Environments, Computer Supported Collaborative Work, Computer Graphics.
Before joining DISCIPLE, I used to work in the Human-Machine Interface Lab also at CAIP . I was part of the STIMULATE project, which implements multimodal collaborative work among distributed users.
Before going to Rutgers, I was the principal investigator of the the "Collaborative Virtual Environmens and Distance Learning" project at EAFIT Univeristy . The objective of the project is to explore the use of distributed multiuser V.R. as means to support Distance Learning in Colombia. Several environments have been built to allow geographically separated teachers and students to conduct learning activities in a collaborative way.
In 1990 I married Gloria Restrepo, the most marvelous wife and mother you can think of. In 1993 our marriage was blessed with the birth of Andrea , in 1997 with the birth of David and in 2001 with the birth of Nicolas. Here are some pictures of us:
