RM II Force Feedback Device for Virtual Reality

The RM II-ND Hand Master

Details on mechanical and haptic control interface design will be posted soon.

The RM II Hand Master

The second generation Rutgers Masters called RM-II is a human-machine interface for haptic display in virtual reality and telerobotics.

RM-II reads hand gestures (hand-master) and displays forces (haptic-display) to four finger in real time. An earlier version of the device, the RM-I, was evaluated at NASA.

The RM II Haptic Control Interface

RM-II is a stand-alone computing system. This configuration allows the system to be interfaced to a multitude of hardware platforms.

RM-II controller interface is equipped with an embedded Pentium based computer. Force feedback control can be local - at a rate of 1 KHz - or distributed. Currently, communication with host computer takes place via RS232 port. Further implementation will allow RM-II-SIS to communicate via Ethernet.
