Virtual
reality based arm rehab system for stroke patients
Virtual
Reality has been used in medical field for various kinds of
applications such
as
surgery simulation and planning, medical data visualization, anatomy
teaching, etc.
One of
the medical applications that is gaining momentum and could benefit
large
number
of people is Virtual Reality-based Rehabilitation. Stroke, one of the
leading
causes
of death and disability in United States and other parts of the world
calls for
innovative
rehabilitation methods in providing
therapy for the patients. Virtual Reality,
which
has been already proven to be effective in different forms of training
and education,
can come
to rescue us from the global epidemic by providing therapy through
virtual
games/exercises designed to make the patients stay more motivated and
engaged
longer.
My thesis describes a system for virtual reality based arm
rehabilitation for
stroke
patients and its development.
