Related Research

Considerable research has been done on a number of aspects of the problem being addressed in our model.

Associative Broadcast (related, pdf) provides the semantics for asynchronous, distributed, symmetric, interest-based broadcast communication. Associative Broadcast model is a robust solution to managing a dynamic environment of objects/components. The model allows a given component to adapt seamlessly to changes in its interaction environment.

Multi-Agent Systems research has covered a lot of ground in massively distributed computing. Our model can benefit significantly from research autonomous components- which form the core of Multi-Agent Systems.

Additionally, agent coordination models and agent communication languages solve issues similar to the ones our model could have. Similar work has been done in the Actors model.

Other Projects

MUSE

The MUSE project, at Winlab, Rutgers, is developing a low-cost integrated multimodal wireless sensor chip that can be used as a platform for a wide variety of applications. The project’s scope includes sensor devices, integrated sensor-on-silicon architectures, wireless communication, sensor networks & protocols, and end-user application concepts/trials.

Project Oxygen

MIT's Project Oxygen is an ambitious project involving some 250 researchers at LCS and its sister Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (AI). Its goal is to develop computer systems that cater to people, rather than the other way around. The project aims to lay the foundations for Pervasive Computing.

Goals n Pebbles

Part of the Project Oxygen's Software Infrastructure, Pebbles(pdf) are platform-independent software components, capable of being assembled dynamically by the GOALS(pdf) planning mechanism in response to evolving system requirements.
