Computational Gas Dynamics Links

Some of the best links for CFD

The best all-around general-reference CFD site. Includes a CFD jobs database, an active CFD discussion forum, and a library of literally hundreds of well-organized CFD links. Maintained by Jonas Larsson of the Volvo Aero Corporation, Sweden. Make sure to visit the new CFD Books Guide

Some of the most beautiful CFD animations you'll ever see. They were created using the Piecewise Parabolic Method (see section 23.2 of Computational Gas dynamics) by the Laboratory for Computational Science and Engineering (LCSE) at the University of Minnesota. Ultra fine grids produce striking levels of detail in turbulent flows.
With just two clicks of a mouse, anyone can run a real CFD code and see the results evolve in time. Also visit MIT's site, the original source for JVWT, and Syracuse University's site with four additional examples. For more background on the CFD method employed, Jameson's method, see Section 22.3 of Computational Gasdynamics. Do not confuse the JAVA Virtual Wind Tunnel with NASA's Virtual Wind Tunnel, an interesting software initiative for visualizing CFD results using virtual reality

On-Line CFD Textbooks

Cover to Numerical Grid Generation

A classic textbook on grid generation, available for free on-line. Nicely complements the material in Computational Gasdynamics. Written by Thompson, Warsi, and Mastin. Also by Joe Thompson, see the wonderful survey paper entitled Reflections on Grid Generation Technology in the 90's: Trends, Needs, and Influences as found here.

Cover to Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

A nice introductory CFD textbook, available for free on-line. Meant for absolute beginners. "The book assumes only a minimal knowledge of fluid mechanics and mathematics, and so it is hoped that it will be a useful guide to the CFD modeling process, being read by new users of CFD software, by those interested in what CFD could do for them and even by their managers." I would hope that every user of CFD software would know much more than the very basics found in this book, but I fear that many do not even know this much. Written by C.T. Shaw
